Around the World in 80 Postcards – Prague

Our seventh postcard is of Charles Bridge in Prague, Czechia, in the style of Alphonse Mucha.

Mucha is my all-time favourite artist, and I discovered him on a trip to Poland. I was in Warsaw, the Old Town Square (feature of last month’s postcard), when it started to rain. A Mucha exhibition was nearby, so we ducked in to take a look (and shelter from the storm). I instantly fell in love with his work, and especially with the piece that was a study ‘The Moon’, for the final panel of his ‘Moon and the Stars’ works.

For this postcard, I wanted to emulate his style of doing panels, like he did for ‘The Seasons’, ‘The Times of the Day’ and ‘The Moon and the Stars’. I loved the Charles Bridge when I visited Prague, so I wanted to show it at different times of the day. It was tough to recreate it, but it is my favourite postcard so far.
